Tim,
M12H was built in Memphis. Numbers built by years: 1945, 1; 1946, 0; 1947, 175 (made in Memphis but prior to Memphis plant dedication in April 1948); 1948, 1120; 1949, 1459; 1950, 667; 1951, 2146; 1952, 1845; and 1953, there were 150 sold in addition to M120 models. There were about 152 pickers made prior to the M12H and the first serial number was 501. Early picker serial numbers were consecutive by all records I found at WHS. I have picker serial numbers in a spreadsheet. The chassis serial number under the operators platform and the row unit serial number should be the same if the row units have not been swapped. If the tractor was made for the picker it will have a CH in the serial number and tractor year will be same as picker. Some tractors were a few years old and converted to pickers by a dealer or the Memphis factory. Most M12H pickers were single fan models; some were modified to dual fans. The M12H began and ended as an aluminum housing over the row unit; earlier units had cast iron covers with limited experimentation with cast aluminum as early as 1942. The M 120 had a steel plate cover. I have a manual I can scan for you. The M 120 manual is very similar. I have several pickers and some parts if you need something. Where are you located? Today's Featured Article - Earthmaster Project Progress Just a little update on my Earthmaster......it's back from the dead! I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned. But alas, my carb foiled me again, it would fire a second then flood out. After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
