Ever since I have had this tractor, they have a in line filter between sediment bowl and carb. Not sure why, but it's been on there ever since I had it, and I have replaced it over the years. The flow to the carb is still good, and through the carb.

I did go out and brush hog today, and have noticed a couple things... I have found that these carbs are quite touchy!! I've had a lot of work to get this lil tractor fixed up...but old carb was definitely in bad shape, but tuning this new one has proven challenging.

I did get it really really close tho in the last couple days and it's been improving. Very small tweaks..so small I barely can tell, but it's getting better.

I have found that it will start missing after running a while...then when i was brush hogging and putting a good load on it, it nearly dies because of the heavy material trying to cut. Then it runs fine for good 30-40 mins no issues at all. So I'm thinking that before the new carb, the carb was worn out and it was loading up as it was lightly smoking light gray and black when it was loading up.

It's not smoking at all now, and so making these small adjustments has improved things. Secondly...when it starts missing, I am thinking it's running a little to lean on fuel mixture possibly and when the rpm's come down, and the governor opens up the carb to compensate, that it's pulling more vacuum and fuel into the system and therefore making it run great again til it starts missing again 30-40 minutes and if i went through heavy stuff again, it worked itself out again.

So I'm going to continue I suppose making small adjustments until it goes away...as it seems to be improving...

I've never had anything with a carb so touchy before....it's really something I guess you have to mess with a lot to get it right on?? lol

So appreciate all the help and hopefully in another year or so I'll have this entire thing rebuilt and to last another 60 years!

Today's Featured Article - Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo. ... [Read Article]
