my son started on a honda 50 dirtbike @4 years, my daughter @ 13ish , MY thinking is they know they will crash, so they go at a slower speed to learn, and they did, on a quad it's "i have 4 wheels i won't roll over, why do i need a helmet"
on my "farm" i have three dirtbikes and a lifted golf cart NO ATV's, i can do as much or more on my golf cart,more easy to get on and off, designed to take two people, i could go on and on, it has a stiffer rear sheave spring so it has lost it's top speed, it will only go 12mph accoring to my gps.
if i had a quad it would be MANDITORY that a helmet was worn, i've been known to give helmets i find at yardsales away to kids on quads, infact i sent a neighbor kid home one memorial day telling him"no lid no ride"

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
