I'm looking at a 10KW generator to use as an emergancy back up during ice storms. I have gas heat, gas stove but an electric hot water heater. Will 10KW be enough to run the blower fan on the furnace, power the lights and keep two modern refridgerators and 2 modern freezers running (I can flip the breaker on the hot water heater)?
I don't plan on trying to operate like the power's still up (no washers and dryers or dishwashers running, no power tools etc) but just enough to keep the house warm and the lights on for a day or two at a time.
