: : I bought a tractor and someone apparently couldn't remove some 5/8" bolts in the side of the tractor where tools bolt on. They just cut them off flush with the casting. Are there any tricks to get them out? I tried drilling and using an easy out, but it didn't work. Thanks Al. : I have gotten a lot of them out by centering a washer over the broken bolt and then welding the washer to the bolt. This allows you to get a good weld from the washer to the bolt. Then weld a nut or another bolt onto the washer, and most of the time they will back right out. Very good idea, never thought of that. Easy-outs have never worked for me, like most said below, they break and I could never see one getting out a rusted bolt. I never use them anymore, like everyone said, you break one off, no drill is going to drill straight enough to get it out. I really like the washer/nut idea.
