this is exactly what europe is going through right now....the French rioted because the work week was going to go from 30-35hrs per week! The Greeks rioted because the retirement age was raised to 55! In Germany you must be provided with 6wks PAID vacation....
Back in the 60s when it started to be "ok" to be a unwed mother and the shame was taken away from being on the dole, welfare came into being, medicaid was expanded, social security was turned into much more than a retirement "assistance" program and the word "family" took on a different meaning was the beginning of what you see today.
back in the day if you wee out of work, you had to live with relatives.... who soon put tremendous pressure on you to get a job... there was shame there.
Now... no husband, having kids with no means to support them puts no burden on your family, no shame on you... those of us that work are saddled with supporting you, housing you, feeding your kids, educating your kids while you pump out more and ignore the ones you have so they end up in the same cycle.

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion.
