the Chinese are perfectly capable of turning out very high quality products and do when high quality is specified by the buyer.
The issue is the american companies importing this crap are having it made to a specific price point to move product quickly.
the Chinese also manufacture machine tools. One example is a 12x36 metal lathe. You can buy that lathe for between 1700 and 4500 bucks.
By that I mean they look like the same exact lathe until you look closely or open them up. The castings are indeed pretty much identical but the precision of the components that matter vary wildly.
I and a friend have identical looking lathes. Mine will hold a cut to .0002" and his won't come close to that. The runout on my spindle is .000025 his is .0005. My machine makes about half as much noise running as his does.
I could go on and on about the subtle but meaningful differences.
I paid 4500 for mine he got his for around 2200
The vendor who imports the lathe I bought has much stricter mfg standards than his does.

Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
