John in La said: (quoted from post at 20:33:49 08/24/11) Both the 12ga and 9ga rolls weigh about the same. 192 vrs 203 lbs and the 9 gauge wire cost over twice as much as the 12ga.
In big gauge wire like this you are buying the knots.
This is why it is a special order item.
Thanks John. I checked out the roll of wire again and it is the 9 3/4 ga. for the filler and top & bottom wire with 16" pullout, & 48" high, 20 rod roll with crosslock knots. So now I will make him an offer and go from there. That Red Brand site has lots of useful info. 34 years ago when the wifes father bought the place, the railroad put up a new fence for him along the track side, and it still looks good to this day. They used this wire. At the same time we put up some fence on the other side for the cattle and this is what I've got to change as its all rusted and broken. It's a good thing I don't have any MAD cows, just HAPPY cows as my grandkids say, because if it wasn't for the electric fence as a deterent they would be in the neighbours field.
Thankyou everbody for the info and feed back. Brian
