If its highly trained job I can see doing this for a while to get through a hump. If not a skilled job, the OT much be getting expensive vs hiring another few people?
A good employer knows this will burn people out over time. To those saying don't complain to farmers, living in the northern part of north america, there is not work like that year round for a farmer, there are slow spells.
We don't have much for laws here, if you're at minimum wage you a guaranteed 15 minute break for every 4 hours worked, one 8 hour period off work per 24 hours, and one day off per week. As soon as you sign a contract above min wage all those protections can be signed away too.
Both the wife and I have worked jobs with infrequent 500 hour months with no overtime on 37.5 hr week salary. Contract says overtime is expected with no compensation. If they did it all the time I'd have to quit. It destroys your life.
