Never thought I would get so many replies . Thankyou to you all . It seems that it was some sort of safty cab . One thing that did prompt me to ask was that a long time back in Classic Tractor there was a feature about Nerbrasker where they showed a picture of a cab undergoing a safety test . It did not say what cab but if the Ertl Model John Deere 4020 is anything to go by , then I would say it was a Hiniker . As for the noise levels which does seem to be the most focused point here , I know they would not have been particularly quiet , but I am sure if people got there engineering heads on they could quieten them down . I know I would if I had one , rubber mounts , padding rund the front and so on . Of course are there and regulations in the USA now ? I know there safety standereds did once fall way below ours . Also here in the UK all cabs sold after about september 1976 had to have a minimum sound level of 90d . Manufacturer paniced , they had to extend the deadline . Why I don't know , for sound insulated cabs by then were nothing new . Case I belive around 1970 . Volvo and Valmet about the same year . Even Zetor back in 1968 got someway to it . The cab was a completely seperate maodule and did have [all be it probably not good quality] some sort of soft mounts . Not too sure what though for there other things beside rubber though not usually as good .

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
