Regular production M engines didn't have C248 on them. They had a 4 digit cast # followed by mostly 2 letters. I figure your block has a 6 digit cast # ending in R with a number following the R. Have found some casting number blocks with C248 on them. Some even though they have C248 on them the bare block bore is the same as a C264 or C281 engine. Should be a date code on toward the front from the casting number that would tell the year cast.
