Yeah that attitude kinda started in the 70's, but a few years ago went to -had to go to, Quebec City. I tried some really bad french on them.... usually they smile or smurk, and say " where the !@#$ you learn how to speak french like that?' I say my half quebecios half acadian mother, then laugh and speak english. But you go to start by trying, breaks the ice I suppose. I don't want to hyjack the post but- have to tell you this one! was on 'VIA's Canadiian'- somewhere in eastern Ontario, a guy from Montreal sitting across from me said- 'I tink you leff yer hat in da toilet... which I did. An older lady was just going to close the door- I said "pardon madam, en ici eh mon shap-oo.'... they both look at me... then, in english- at the same time they scream "shapooooo! where did you get shap ooo" hey in 30 seconds everyone on the train was looking at me whispering 'ill par chapoo- hahaha' I was never so embarassed. you know the ones that rode all the way to Edmonton with me were just great the whole trip... but don't call a hat shap oo to break the ice, it's not worth it....
