I got to get with my one BIL. He's got pics from a canoe camping trip he too with friends years ago. The made camp one evening and one of his friends had a 357 pistol with for bears. He spread a rag on a rock and started to take the pistol apart to clean it because it had gotted wet. While he had it apart a bear walked into the camp. They got pictures of the bears sniffing the gun parts! The bear walked around a bit and left. They packed up and went a ways before selecting anohter camp site for the night! For the pictures I'd guess it was about a 450 pound black bear. I'm not sure if the guy was planning on trying to take a bear with the 357 or if he was going to shoot himself when the bear grabbed him to spare himself from the pain of being mauled    !
