Corvidae. Worlds smartest birds. Include ravens, crows magpies and a few others. Only bird known that likes to play. I climbed up into a big pine tree one time and stole a young crow out of the nest. Raised him all summer, fed him softened dog food and whatever else he'd eat. Was a fun pet. He hung around till late fall, early winter and then left. I thought he'd be back next year but never saw him again. Yes they do love shiney objects. Sometimes I couldn't get it to come down from the tree or garage roof to feed it but it would sure come down for a scrap of tin foil. He had a hoard somewhere but I never could find it. Don't know if he was male or female but he seemed like a guy. I named him Jim. Lot of small joy in doing as you are with those magpies.
