Does it have a temp gauge on it??? If it does not how do you know it is running hot?? You say it does not run hot enough to over heat well then you are probably over filling the radiator and so when it gets warm the coolant expands and has to go some place to the excess goes out the over flow. Run it do not refill it and see if it runs well and does not over heat. If that works then you where the problem not the coolant system. If it does over heat then you could have a cracked sleeve since it is a wet sleeve engine and your burning/steaming the coolant
