Johnes Disease is highly contagious. It is a mycobacterium that causes disease primarily in the small intestine. Cattle become infected by ingesting infected manure. Calves less than or equal to 1 yr old are more susceptible but it can infect Adults and older cattle too. Bad thing is that cattle can be infected and be subclinical (meaning not show signs of diseaes until they are 2 yrs of age or older). Usually there is or are "carrier" cows or bulls transmitting it that appear healthy. It is often fatal, no cure.
I am suggesting this as I am a small animal Vet and it has been 12 yrs since I saw Johnes Disease in Vet School but it is serious stuff.
