We have OnStar on both my GMC Truck and my wifes new Terrain. We both like it in the fact that we don't need to use cell phones or GPS units. We both are guilty of playing with them while driving and the hands free OnStar offers I have to say is nice. We also like the fact if you are in an accident they automatically call the authorities for you if the airbag goes off.
However..... I do not like getting a phone call from OnStar, the dealer, and an e-mail when my car ticks 5,500 miles that I need to make an appointment for my 7,500 mile service. Asked to disable it on the wife's car, OnStar said can't be done. We monitor all systems within the car even if you don't subscribe to the service and will send the dealer notifications. I think I am going to go Allan's route and install a toggle switch in the wiring to disable it when not in use. And as much as I hate Toyota, Honda, etc... our brand new GMC has had a recall for engine issues and been back to the dealer twice in 5,500 miles. It's like politicians, none are any better than other.
