Get yourself a Tekonsha Prodigy or Prodigy P3 controller. They're the best inertia-based controllers on the market today, IMHO.
I've had my original Prodigy since 2004. It's all electronic accelerometer based, and is so quick on the uptake it almost feels like the trailer is braking WITH you instead of after. Never too much or too little. Easy to set, and set and forget.
The P3 is a newer version with a current readout and a couple extra settings, but they still make the original.
There are other controllers that plumb into the hydraulic lines, or attach to the brake pedal via a cable. They work a little better than the Prodigy, but the Prodigy is plenty "good enough" for most applications. It's so much better than the cheap controllers, you will wonder how you could improve things at all...
