I really don't think the music entertainment has anything to do with it. I am 34 and have always loved tractors from day one. John Deere of course. My point is most people who grew up around tractors or Dad's old cars seem to carry on the tradition. I was lucky enough that my dad did both. For me it was always JD 2 cylinder tractors and 55-57 Chevrolet cars. I love both dearly and now have both.
To attract the younger generation you really have to make them feel like they are somebody instead of a nobody. Just because they are young doesn't make them stupid. Our club went from me being the youngest member to an increase of 8 members younger than me. We give them responsibility just like everyone else. They feel like they are part of something this way. Heck, I manage the website and provide most of the ideas on how to promote our show and fund raising events. The older ones have accepted me as someone who has knowledge of things more than knowing all about the internal parts of a tractor (But I do that also). In fact, I talk with 3-4 of our older members on a friend basis now since I joined the club 3 years ago.
A good start is getting the local FFA and 4-H involved in your club shows or events. We have started getting several younger members just by treating them like someone that is 50. Having tractor pulls or tractor games at the shows really helps also. It gives them something to do rather than just sit beside an idle exhibit all day. Remember, younger folks are active. For the tiny tikes, we have tons of free stuff to entertain them at our show. Pedal tractor pulls, kid games (without a tractor), and bouncy castles for them to play on. The idea is to make the show fun so they will always want to come back and eventually at some point get a tractor of their own to participate.
