Bin Laden didn't care much about Afghanistan. His real goal was to take over Pakistan, because that would give him a couple of dozen nukes to play with. He's gone but there are still plenty of others with the same goals. I doubt we'll ever stop them completely but we can keep them from doing what they would really like to do. Unfortunately it will cost some lives.
