I do a lot of repairs on Wisconsin Air Cooled engines. Mostly 2 cylinders, but also 1 cyls, or V4"s. On manifolds I sandblast. and then spray with "Rust-Oleum" "High Heat" which is made for grills and wood stoves, and is rated for 1200 degrees. It comes in a12 oz spray can, and I"ve had no problem with burn off. Priming is not recommend, and I"ve only used it on shiny clean sandblasted manifolds! For the Zenith cast steel carbs, I disassemble them and soak them in carb cleaner, then flush them in hot water. Usually I carefully sandblast them, being careful not to touch the insides unless the bodies are rusty. I paint them with "Valspar",(thats the brand available locally at "Farm-Fleet" stores)Epoxy appiliance enemal, in gloss black. Carbs are the assembled with a new kit, but I clean all passages with a gas welding tip cleaner--the set that has about 20 sizes of fine wires. That epoxy paint won"t burn off and is not affected by gasoline. For aluminum carbs I use a good soak in carb cleaner...I use a"gunk" brand that comes in a gallon can with a basket inside, and just leave them as they come out, unless terribly corroded or stained, in which case I may lightly sand blast them at 50 PSI.

How did I get this way? I came from the suburbs and own a small horse farm in rural Loudoun County, Virginia. You can call me a "weekend farmer." The local farmers do. Does it bother me? No. I am just happy to have their friendship. At least the word "farmer" is in my title. But what is the attraction? How can I explain the sensation and exhilaration I feel when I turn the key and hear the engine come to life (most
