It is still the same. On sale a 500 with 2 barrels costs less than a 870 Express (a 870 with a crude finish). I was always a Remington guy untill the Freedom Group bought them, now you couldn't give me the clumsey clunky junk they build. Mossberg sells barrels for the 500 at about 1/3 the cost of Remington. Weaver makes a side mount for a scope that is a easy fit on the 500. Rifled barrels with adjustable iron sights?, Mossberg makes them and they are affordable. In line Muzzel Loader barrel, yep, $109 when I got mine. If I could only have one gun, it would be a 500.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
