Then, they cry out for media, and end up on the national news, and in National Geographic magazine, then sell their small piece of property for an undisclosed (read: millions) amount of money, and they are never to be heard from again.
My personal favorite story was that of the farmer who sprayed corn later in the day. Almost all of us know the smell of atrazene, 24d, etc... The night air held the smell down low to the ground, it wafted into a town, and immediately, the strange smell was blamed on the gas wells, and panic ensued. People insisted that ambulances were necessary. People claiming respiratory distress and all kinds of problems.
