Thanks for your support in the matter. I ended up being lucky. Before I opened the plate for the engagement lever, I decided to try just putting the shaft back in. I figured that if the collar was dropped at all, I would aim the shaft in a little low and give it a lifting motion. I don't know if that helped. I then rotated the shaft a little this way and then the other way and it went in bit by bit until it finally seated completely. I tightened the 4 bolts evenly. Then hopped on the tractor, engaged the pto, started her up and the shaft spun up. I haven't put the bush mower on yet, that will be tomorrow. First I will check the fluid level, top her off and then do some mowing.
