Bingo! Sounds like Mrs. doubleN and me. 25 years with Aussies, the best dogs ever and had to put down the last one a few years ago. Said at our age, no more dogs, don't want to go through this again, don't want to be tied down, etc., etc.
You know the rest of the story. Less than a year later, found some sort of dog wandering along the roadside ditch, took him to the house, fed him, cleaned him up, searched for owners, ended up taking him to vet for shots and neutering and we ended up keeping him.
What is he? Vet says about 75% Standard Poodle and who knows what else. Had to have run away from someone because he already knew his basic commands and more when we found him.
But-Casey is a great dog, smart, great personality, loves the grand kids and they love him and the biggest beneift of all is that being part poodle, he's hypo-allergenic and doesn't shed, a huge plus for asthmatic ME!
