Looks like alot of good advice so far but some of it, to me, is assuming the saw is starting and running poorly before shutting off, or something to that effect. Sounds to me like what your describing is a saw that has no fire and won't even 'hit' at all, much less run. That said, given the symptoms and the fact you say you changed the spark plug, the first thing I'd do is get another spark plug. I have seen too many plugs over the years (especially Champions which tend to get used in small equipment like this) that would work 'in open air' but would not work when tightened up in the cylinder.
