40 acres isn't even considered a farm. You've got more than enough tractor already. With all the equipment you're talking about getting, comes a lot more repair and maintenance costs as well, especially with older well used equipment. Pretty good way to lose the money from your good paying job in a hurry. I realize it's your dream but start off small and see if you can barter with your neighbors for stuff like combining or planting.
You sound kind of down in the dumps and are looking for something to keep you occupied. What you are proposing is likely to do the opposite when you see how much money it will cost. It's near impossible to make any profit off 40 acres unless you're doing some kind of specialty crop. Then you probably need specialty equipment for it. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear. You have lots to look forward to, you just don't realize how good you have it now.
