Previous comment about hooking positive to positive are correct. I agree that a good 6 volt system works fine -- about the only advantages of a 12v system are that the battery cables can be lighter (saving the manufacturer money) and the system is somewhat more forgiving of dirty or loose connections.


Your statement about the battery charger leads getting hot while the battery won't come up may indicate a dead cell in the battery (possibly damaged by reverse charging?).
