I think we had M60's at Yakima Firing Center, in the desert of eastern Washington, when I was in the National Guard. Long time ago, memories getting a little fuzzy.
Had a particularly hot and dry summer, and order came from on high that tanks could only accelerate GRADUALLY, and then, only to half throttle- because when they slammed them into full throttle, the flames from the exhaust tended to set the sage brush behind on fire.
Bet the VW guy made a "Note to self" after that little experience.
