4430's and 4230's are both hard starters. My 4430 started hard, changed it to two 12 volt batteries and it starts better now. That may not be your whole problem though. If you have many hours you may need to rework the starter. This may be the problem no matter how many batteries you put on it. How many hours? Maybe need to clean injectors or have the pump rebuilt. They seem to start harder if the fuel has been turned up. A lot of things here to look at but it is not always the bateries. Have you done a load test on them? If they test good I would look at the starter. My 4430 has 8900 hours on it starter has been off at least twice, but the engine is still original uses no oil and runs great. Like previous post you have to have good cables, they can look good but if they are original they can be bad inside the covering. Good luck.
