Those 2.8's are good little engines. I had an 1984 Ranger 4x4 regular cab/longbox 4 sp. with one. It was carbuerated with a solid lifter cam. I could turn it 6500 RPM. I cut the exhaust off and made it true duals out the manifolds and used 2 SC case tractor mufflers. It sounded great and would get 28.5 mpg on the interstate. I sure do miss that truck but I now have a 1992 S-10 4x4 reg. cab short box with a 4.3 and 5 sp. and love it to.
