Rick, I don't know any of CRP contracts that are perpetuity, I believe you may be thinking of WRP (Wetland Reserve Program) contracts. I think it is interesting in North Dakota, where my farms are, perpetuity (forever) is 30 years (a 90 % payment not 100%). Unlike commidity subsidy payments where everyone loses except the farmer that recieves them (or the landloard) and the people that work at FSA. Others are going to disagree, I think every one wins with conservation programs. Who is against clean air, water and wildlife ? Also it is a bargin compared to commidity subsidy entitlements. Why grow cotton in the desert ? I can't feel bad for anyone that buys land with a restrictive easement (usually at a bargin price) on it an later finds out he can't build a house. The College of Hard Knocks has a Masters program, but the tuition is expensive. Japan is even more protective than Germany, The UK,France ect, are far more protective of their markets than the US. Farmers in Africa and Inda get nothing. I would like a global ban on commidity subsidies, and lets find out really who has the most productive farmers.
