let me shed a little light on the subject,i made the mistake of bad mouthing a 6 volt system to a parts lady that sold antique tractor parts that was trying to sell a man a 6 volt gen.,voltage reg.,she quick let me know that it was manufactured that and shouldn't be altered, undoubtedly she had never twisted a steel monkey's tail until a 50 horse tractor cranked in cold weather when it didn't want to crank over with a premium 6 volt system, nor did the shop foreman that told me when i asked for 2 1000 cca batteries to replace 1 550 cca on a 539 cid ford engine with 2 direct driven hyd pumps that it only took 1 cca per cid of an engine to start it, although he was never there when it hesitates to start on the first try and here were getting jumper cables and at least 2 other vehicles to jump it while 10 head of men waited on us,coarse he wasn't around when the little battery he would put in the track machines with a 391 ford industrial engines in them would hesitate to start and the battery would run out steam in a very short time, this most of the time happened when you were a 1/2 mile to dry ground, and would have to walk out get a battery and tote it back, simple solution was batteries with as high a cca that was available and a high amp alternator to charge them, not trying to be insulting just been in these situations to many times
