I have a '91 Dodge Dakota, 3.9L V6, 5 speed manual, 4x4. The transmission is a NP535/NV2500.
Now the problem: at the rear of the trans, on the top passenger side corner(about 1:00 o'clock position when viewed from the rear), there is a hole drilled in the case. It's a smooth bore, no threads, about 5/16" or so diameter. I am losing transmission fluid out this hole. I spoke to parts guy at the local Dodge garage this afternoon. He says yes, parts diagram shows a one-way valve of some sort there but is labeled NS-1, meaning no longer manufactured? So...no help from the Chrysler camp.
There is a metal pipe nipple on the top of the trans case, just behind the shifter, where the breather hose is attached.
What is this valve and where can I get one?
I don't recall ever seeing two vents on a transmission before. Can anyone explain why it has two?
