Two or more things went wrong. #1 The number of FIT applications exceeded expectations by at least 10 fold. The IEMO, Ontario Energy Board, Hydro One etc. Where all caught in a backlog of applications. The "wise thinkers" in Toronto never imagined farmers by the thousands putting up 10 or 30KW systems. All that was expected was hundreds of 1-2 KW urban systems. #2 Some farmers never read the fine print and waited for a grid assessment, then a connection offer. They either built or signed contractors to build solar systems. Without first ensuring a grid connection is possible.
The problem isn't always the lines being loaded to max. It's electrical noise and surges from all the invertors and induction generators. Way out on the tail end of a power line, 20+ miles away from a substation. Line current, frequency and voltage protection relays. Are going to see this noise and ripples as faults and keep tripping the breakers open.
