I had to bale one time with a McCormick W4, when my live PTO tractor was down. Not that difficult after I got onto hitting the clutch, shifting into neutral and letting clutch back out quickly enough that the baler flywheel didn't lose momentum. Surprising how fast you can get those ole gals out of gear, once you get the hang of it. You've gotta anticipate when the "slug" is coming, and do your dance just as its coming up the pickup, not when its trying to go into the bale chamber.
But I agree on speed- Fords are way too high geared for the power they have.

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion.
