You need to think about how you will get along IF it breaks down. They are not a common tractor at all. Used parts a hard to find. AGCO has dropped many of the parts for this tractor. I have worked on a few. They where not a very reliable tractor when new. They had engine troubles like posted below. They also where bad about scraping the counter shaft in the trans mission. When they did that they usually ruined the transmission case. The one I repaired did that and we had to strip the transmission case clear down. Then send it to be welded up and re-machined. This happened when the tractor was about ten years old. I remember the repair bill being over 10K in the late 1980s.
The market has a way of working out what is a good tractor and what is not. If a tractor is well represented and still is selling cheap then there is a reason. The opposite is true about selling high. They are more than likely a good tractor.
I just don't mean JD either. An example of others selling well would be the Oliver 1655 diesel, good one will still bring almost 10k. They handled well and held together too. The flip side would be a MF 2775 they sell cheap because they where a nightmare waiting to happen. Just about everyone of them had transmission problems. I see them selling for $3500-5000 commonly.

After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
