I have a Canon Rebel T2I, which I believe is also called the Canon 550D. I have an 18-150mm lens.
It's a great camera, pretty easy to use, I think, though I've got some experience with a SLR camera. It might be a bit too much for someone that doesn't have much experience with a camera....though you can always learn. I know that I still haven't learned all the features of mine.
One problem is that it is big and bulky, not exactly the best for carrying around all day unless you REALLY want it for "special" shooting or really high speed shooting. I did want those features, as well as the video feature.
Does this camera you're looking at come with a lens? Unless it is a kit, the lenses are sold separately, and can vary in price wildly depending on quality.
