The original AR 7 was designed by Armalite, after they were successful with the AR 15 to the extent that it was adopted by the Armed Forces as the M 16.
I have fired the Armalite version years ago but don't remember how accurate it was. It dissambled easily and the metal parts were stored in the hollow plastic stock which had a water proof cap for it and yes, it did float.
Armalite sold the AR 7 rights years ago and it has been through several owners, as I recall, not that my recall is guranteed. The AR 7 goes through periods of non production, then a new owner comes along and puts it in production for a while. What would be mildly interesting would be to own an AR7 from each of the builders.
Going strictly from memory I think the first AR 7 came out in the late 60s or early 70s.
