Well, last of ANY farmers in my town. 30 years ago we had over 50 dairy farms. Now down to 2 or 3.
Farm #1 with the angry signs . . . Was owned by an old friend for 60 years. Then he got sick and had to go to Canada for an operation. He had no health insurance and in Canada - if a US citizen paying cash- you can get work done at 1/3 the price. Afterwards, while recovering he almost lost his right to farm. He had the last farm within village limits where farming is now illegal. The catch is - they can't stop you until you cease to farm for one full year. He went back after 11 months because he had to. Then he sold the farm. New guy who has it now tried running for several political positions and did not get elected. Going by the signs he seems a bit angry. This is in central New York.
Farmer #2 lost the road in front of his farm months ago shortly after hurricane Irene. We got hit with a second storm that did the REAL damage. A mile of county highway got lost in front of his farm. The County refused to fix it for months because they wanted FEMA to take care of it. So he finally got ticked off - got out his hoe, dozer, and tractors and put some fill in. Just enough so he could drive to town. Then the county threatened to sue him I suspect he actually owns the road in front of his barn - but who knows the legal complications here. I own several town roads - but they are still public highways.
So, road is still not fixed - but finally some big equipment has arrived and some work is being done.
