New is not always better at least heavy equipment wise,but in some instances it is being forced upon you. A local contractor does alot of Federal and State road and bridge work. The bid packages now require a large percentage of the equipment to be used on the job to be tier 4 compliant. SO if he wants to get the job,he has to go buy or rent many millions of dollars of the new emission compliant equipment to meet the stipulations of the contract, even though he has a yard full of well maintained older equipment.
