Cummins 5.9 in a CaseIH 5240
Had my tractor apart this last summer due to a head gasket issue (head was warped a fraction, so it was planed), anyway while it was apart i decided to get the fuel system done too, had the pump checked and returned to spec for fuel delivery - now at the top end of specs - and new tips on the injectors.
I put new air filters in when it was repaired and at the same time, removed the muffler (rusted out and starting to fall apart) and replaced with a piece of pipe, not another muffler (didn"t see paying $300 for a muffler)... Anyway, the long and short of it is now under load at higher rpms the air filter light is on (and a little black smoke), light is off at mid rpms and lower, just at approx 1900 plus rpms.
Is this due to the lack of restriction in the exhaust or should i change the filters again (have cleaned the outer one, and not much dust came out of it - i have a small air tank hooked up to a 2inch pipe to blow air backwards through the filter)? Or do i disconnect the warming light??
