I don't think that I have ever seen gas jump 10 cents at one time, but if I did I think that I would have left and gone elsewhere.
I still think though that we ought to be thankful that we pay so much less than most of the rest of the world. In most other counties you can pull up to the pump and say "wow! that's a good price" then you see it's for a liter instead of US gallon.
