Well, you don't say whether it's hot or cold when it stalls coming down suddenly from high idle. Cold, could be faulty or disconnected fast idle solenoid. Check little switch threaded into manifold (water passage) on left front corner of engine as you're facing it. There should be continuity between these terminals when cold. Stalls from high idle hot? Usually on high-time injector pump, or one that's been contaminated with water. Check advance lever on side of pump for freedom of movement, prone to corrosion and gets stiff. Remove the pump top cover and check the linkage attached to the metering valve for freedom of movement. The metering valve should move very freely. If it's stiff or draggy the valve is scratched and there's nothing you can do about it. Just don't chop the throttle anymore.
