Ya know, I kind of knew about the ban or lack of funding -whatever it was and never gave it much thought. I don't have horses... On the other hand, in the past few years I have seen more stories about neglected horses. I assumed it was more to do with the economy. Folks have lost lost their job, the house and even the horse they rode in on. I hadn't considered that a lot of the abuse and neglect stories has to come from over population. Cut off the natural or man made selection and you got a problem. And I've read on this site how you can't legally put your own horse down. Surprising how a small vocal group can sway the nation's lawmakers to pass such ill thought out laws. I heard we had a pretty good foreign market for horsemeat till the Feds shut it down. I think I would eat horsemeat. I remember as a kid mom bought horsemeat at the local grocery store. Don't remember much beyond that. I know it has something of a stigma to eat horse meat. The Russian general Bagration once said come winter he would make Napolean eat his horses. And he did it too.
