I live about 20 miles from where this occured, just South of Hendersonville in SC. We have a short season on bears here. One week of rifle season then a week when hounds can be used. From what we've seen on the games cams that my neighbor and I have up, we have too many bears in our area. They tear up our fruit trees breaking branches to get at the fruit. I reckon when we have someone killed by a sow with cubs the Dept. of Natural Resources will wake up and extend the season. There were 39 bears harvested in my county this year and I would bet the farm that wasn't even close to the 10% that need to be killed.
