Started out to be a beautiful day in the woods. In the high 40s F today which is usual. Often in the 20s by now.
Drug out my huge Pettibone-Detroit Diesel backhoe/loader and my little Deere 1010 crawler loader. Wanted to use the Deere on the steep sidehill to gather wood and dump it into the big bucket on the Pettibone.
Well? Whole day got wasted. First run with the crawler on the sidehill and the track came right off. I used to fix many thrown tacks on Deere rental machines in the woods. But that was over 30 years ago, I was younger, had a well equipped service truck and usually a helper. We'd often just split the track, run it back on then recouple it.
So, I think this is the first time I ever had to do one by myself and with very few tools. Might of been a better way, but at least I got it back on.
Here's when all went wrong . . .
So I used the rear ripper on the Deere as a parking break and a rear lift when needed. .
Put a pipe between the front bucket and track and used the bucket to collapse the track all the way back . . .
Note the grease forces out of the track adjuster when shoved all the way back . .
Good and loose now . .
Shoved a pipe against the back of the track to hold it tight against the sprocket . .
Almost back on . .
Back on . . .
That left me two hours of sunlight so I got a little done. Made sure the tracks were tight this time.

But no matter how good or bad auctions may be, we always seem to stay until the item we've come for or are interested in is on the block. I've been to some auctions near and far. I think the furthest has been the Two Cylinder 7 in the Amana Colonies last year. Lots of stuff, lots of people. I've also atten
