Newer GM diesels (since 07) have a thermal switch in the heater cord. Cord won't work ABOVE 0F. Most owners don't know that. Duramax start well cold. even with bad glow plugs. They did the termal switch so the computer doesn't set false codes when the ECM "sees" air temp at 10F coolant temp 10F and fuel temp at 80F. The trucks were going into limp mode and driving us monkeys in the shop nuts till we figured it out. (GM has never admited a mistake) I questioned why they just couldn't change the ECM programing of what is right and wrong to see that the cord is in use and to allow those data imputs as normal under conditions.
