Around 1975 I taught hydraulics at Western Wisconsin Technical Institute, at LaCrosse WI. We cut open 22 brands of oil filters for evaluation,(another story) and collected samples of hydraulic jack oil to test. That included "Meyers" snow plow oil. We sent the oil to the "Citgo" test lab. The reseults were that the jack oils were all a light weight pure mineral oil with corrosion inhibiters and some anti foam suppressents.. Some had dyes added to make them "look different". Viscosity was equivilent to "about" #5 to #10 lube oil. Meyers was different! It had a different additive package, probably better than common "Jack oil", and may have been slightly thinner, (#5 viscosity, maybe, but it"s been 35 years, and I can"t remember now) that would make it flow better in cold weather. However...Meyers hydraulic components are no different from other industrial brands, execpt that they have to work outside in cold weather. Once the system is out of warrenty I might think of using a less expensive brand...but since the Meyers system only uses a quart or two of oil.. is it worth monkeying around? I myself have a "Meyers" plow, with a "Western" hydraulic system, on a 1965 "Scout", and it works fine on "Dextron" ATF.

As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
