Thanks for the replies, all. I've never seen a motor like this and a couple people I asked haven't either.
Garret, I think you're right. Notice the extra plug? Maybe to run a series of motors on a stirator. That lines up with Texasmarks' comment as you generally don't want spark in a bin... The auger is definitely not a stirator auger though. Guy musta just had the motor sitting around and he burned up the sweep motor.
B&D - I'm not looking to make 10 bucks (should bring more'n that, anyway). I'm looking to cut the weight of a sweep that I need to bring in and out of a bin every time I clean it out. I wouldn't do it if I didn't already have a half horse motor sitting here.
JMS - I have a half horse motor on a 13 foot sweep and it never acts like it's overloaded, so a half horse motor should easily turn an 8 foot sweep. Neither of my sweeps have the back plate and they're only about a 4 inch auger. Doesn't take much to turn them.
